The 7 Steps of Highly Cool People.
In my opinion, this article is inadequate to the eyes of
the readers due to its lack of information, for there are many questions remain
unanswered throughout the article. It leaves the readers with puzzling
questions. It also does not bring along a strong fact to prove the provided
statement. The phrase ‘Guru of Cool’ is just a psychology trick from the author
to gain trust from the readers. The phrase also shows that the author is self-praising
himself, because the author wants the readers to trust and believe in him. Thus,
this proves that the article is related to appeal to emotion.
The author also uses a few different set of fallacy in
the article. For example, there is an obvious use of appeal to inappropriate
authority which is, “Even my friends tell me dancing is the best form of
exercising”. It is stated that the author only uses words from a friend to
support the author’s conclusion. Besides that, the author also uses fallacy of
appeal to tradition, which is, “I know, I know, some of you are allowed drink
alcohol when you come of age”. Other than the previous statement, the phrase “we
have actually found traces of poison in Ecstasy” shows a clear example of
appeal to ignorance.
As a conclusion, this article can only be used as a time-out
reading material but not as a reference because this whole article is just a
direct opinion from a person and lacking in terms of solid facts.
